A CALL TO ACTION
THE MUNGINDI CHILDCARE PROJECT
A Social Enterprise that will unlock transformational social and economic benefits for the people of Mungindi.
The Social Enterprise
The Mungindi Community Education Association Inc. (MCEA) has been formed by a group of committed and driven community leaders to unlock the extraordinary benefits that will flow from the creation of childcare for 0 to 5 year olds.
This initiative brings together a small, dynamic and charged team to unlock opportunities across government, the public and private sectors and the community to make this project happen and to ensure that it operates as a profitable social enterprise.
The Need
Recent changes in the Queensland Government’s funding model for pre-schools (3yr olds) and the ongoing need for a long daycare service for children aged between 0-5 years of age has reached critical level.
A heightened, urgent need continues in Mungindi for childcare services for children under four years of age as there will be no care available for children under four.
The Project
To dynamically bring together government, the education sector and community to fund, build and manage a purpose-designed facility to provide long daycare from 0-5 year old children.
Why does this project have huge potential to change the lives of children and their families?
There are many people in Mungindi who are disadvantaged by physical and social isolation, economic circumstances or cultural backgrounds. This in turn negatively affects the lives of their children. Many children do not have access to adequate education. This results in many children not developing life social skills, social and educational skills, confidence and sense of possibility, which should develop in the formative years of life.
The MCEA team know that by going to the root cause and providing long day care for children between 0-5 years, will unlock opportunities and possibilities for those that need it most.
How will this be achieved?
The Moree Plains Shire Council (MPSC), in partnership with Balonne Shire Council (BSC), are striving to develop a childcare facility in Mungindi which requires financial and in-kind support from State and Federal Government, business, community groups and the Mungindi Community Education Association Inc.
